Calling for a Transformational Shift
The six gears at the bottom of the outer ring represent a vision that depicts the world as a machine, with separate objects in abstract space interacting according to mechanical laws. This materialistic view of reality continues to threaten and undermine the worth of human life, especially those viewed as having little usefulness. Turning Point strives to reverse the exploitation that this object-oriented worldview encourages.
The seven triangles at the foundation of the logo are symbols that represent seven different narrow-gate points of change for those who have outgrown a view of the universe as hierarchical and predictable and give preference to what’s seen from the bottom. As we work out of a holistic and ecological vision, these conversion points represent places of common ground found as the structural alternative that has wellness and wholeness at the center is created. They are invitations to participate in a dynamic cultural evolution or pervasive change in social structure that recognizes relationship (Trinity dynamic) as its foundation. Also, they reflect the seven values that are resurrected when we are released from the influences of misconception or errant quest.
The two persons bowed in respect, reverence, and recognition of our interdependence represent a social approach that attempts to discontinue the damage being done to those least equipped to defend themselves: the poor, the addicted, the disabled, future generations, etc. Recognition of the world as a network of relations, which calls for good stewardship of the gifts we all enjoy, is the first step in healing the ruptures that divide us. This level of fearless caring demands vision, a trait not evident when focus remains on quick or easy, profit or pleasure, scarcity or segregation, consumption or status quo.
The dove that fills the space between the two persons represents the peace found by those who connect, and then, in an environment of trust, together chart that path that recaptures awareness of and avenue to our interconnectedness. Here, by rebuilding those social networks and community ways of life that economic growth and technology alone cannot solve, we make a difference in tangible ways by taking practical steps to the cultural conversion called for.
The eagle, hovering over the two persons, represents the freedom and hope generated when we respect each other’s choices, stimulate change, maximize contribution, encourage commitment, cultivate community, foster conciliation, and then, together, reflect compassion. Here, amidst these seven core values, the true worth of all is recognized and responded to.
The colors represent the union of earth (brown and green) and heaven (yellow) that is experienced when we resist the assumption that an examination of the parts abstracted from the dynamic or living context can give adequate meaning to the reality of ‘parts in relationship.’ Relationships provide a dimension of meaning and possibility of creativity that exceeds the reality of parts as isolated data. Turning Point Community flows from recognition of this mystery of immeasurable significance and consequence.
